Hamid Shabuddin, 55, of Paterson was a passenger in a 2005 Toyota Camry that collided head-on with a 2021 Ford F-150 at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15 in the northbound lanes in Riverdale, a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office said.
Shabbudin was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the Camry was taken to a hospital.
The driver of the Ford was transported to Riverdale Police headquarters, and subsequently, transported to Chilton Hospital, authorities said.
No charges had been filed as of press time.
Shabbudin was mourned by Paterson Second Ward Councilman Shahin Khalique.
A LaunchGood campaign was created for Shabbudin's family, which says he had "recently migrated with his family from South Africa in search of safety and a better future." He had been en route to work a night shift and was carpooling with a co-worker.
